The organization has been named Society of Nepalese in Hawaii (SNEHA) and Dr Khem Raj Sharma has been appointed the first president.

According to Arjun Aryal, the secretary of the organization, over 60 people living in Hawaii, mainly in Honolulu had unanimously decided to join together.

"The SNEHA's mission is to preserve and promote the Nepali culture, to foster cooperation among Nepalis and their friends in Hawaii, and to promote development to make a positive difference in community," a statement by Aryal said.
