'Samoan Wedding' star to speak at UH

Oscar Kightley, Samoan actor, playwriter, screenwriter and co-author and star of the 2006 film, "Samoan Wedding," will screen the movie and speak at a seminar next week at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

Kightley will be in residency at the Center for Pacific Island Studies as a visiting artist. These appearances are open to the public:

i A master class on screenwriting and acting, targeting students with the UHM Academy of Creative Media, from 10 a.m. to noon April 2 at Shidler College of Business, room C102.

i "Samoan Wedding" screening, at 7 p.m. April 3, at the UHM Architecture Auditorium, room 205. A question-and-answer session follows.

i A seminar on his creative work, at 3 p.m. April 5, at Burns Hall 3121/3125.

Kightley, who was born in Samoa, created a box office sensation in New Zealand with "Samoa Wedding." He also is a member of the Aotearoa/New Zealand comedy group, the Naked Samoans, and co-creator of the animated TV series, "bro 'Town."
