Honoapi'ilani Highway widening project launched

News Release

The state Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration have initiated the Honoapi'ilani Highway Realignment/Widening Project. Goals of the project include increasing roadway capacity, increasing the service life of the road in recognition of shoreline erosion, promoting land use development and preservation patterns, and improving emergency response. The project limits extend from Ma'alaea to Launiupoko and the project will include the preparation of an environmental impact statement.

Initial meetings will be held at the end of March with a variety of project stakeholders to identify key issues and coordinate data collection. A community meeting is tentatively scheduled for late April. In addition, a project task force is being formed. Those interested in providing comments on the project or participating on the project task force should contact:
