Brown Bags to Stardom returns

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Urban Honolulu Writer

That popular high school talent contest — Brown Bags to Stardom — is back.

Eleven schools submitted music videos that have been airing on OC16 since Jan. 14, with people around the world voting online for their favorites.

There were more than 4 million hits on the Web site from more than 50 countries in the two months the videos were broadcast.

Winners will be announced tomorrow at the Blaisdell Arena.

The event, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m., will be hosted by comedian Andy Bumatai.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann will present an award to Jeff Coelho, director of the city's customer services, for his part in starting Brown Bags more than 25 years ago.

The nominees will perform, along with Glenn Medeiros, Kapena, Kawao and Afatia.
