Zimny's home run lifts Hawaii over Nevada

Advertiser Staff

Evan Zimny's three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth with one out rallied Hawai'i past Nevada, 5-3, Friday night in the Western Athletic Conference season opener for both teams at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Wolf Pack fell to 14-13 overall, 0-1 WAC.

Jayson Kramer (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for UH (20-8, 1-0).

In the bottom of the ninth, Justin Frash hit a fly to left-center that center fielder Jason Sadoian dropped for a two-base error. Frash scored on Brandon Haislet's ground single to left to pull UH to 3-2. Kris Sanchez grounded to short for a force at second before Eli Christensen walked. After a pitching change, Zimny drilled a 1-2 pitch over the right-field wall to end the game.
