Maintenance work to close Ala Moana Park next month

Advertiser Staff

Ala Moana Regional Park will be closed from 10 p.m. April 25 though 3 p.m. April 26 for heavy maintenance.

"Everyone across the island agrees that Ala Moana Park has never looked better thanks to the major cleanup we did last year," said Mayor Mufi Hannemann in a news release. "Our goal is to keep the shine on the crown jewel of our public park system."

One year ago, city officials began closing Ala Moana at night to prepare for a three-day shutdown for maintenance. The nightly closures forced out illegal campers at Ala Moana, where camping is prohibited.

After the Ala Moana work is completed, city officials will turn their attention to Thomas Square Park, said Lester Chang, city parks and recreation director.
