Saturday's High School baseball: Roosevelt beats Kalani

The Roosevelt baseball team got more than enough insurance runs in the sixth inning yesterday to ensure victory against Kalani at Stevenson Intermediate field.

The Rough Riders sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven times in the sixth to win the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division game, 10-2.

The inning included five singles, two walks, two hit basemen, two errors and a stolen base against three pitchers.

Roosevelt junior Kelson Okimoto, a side-slinging left-hander, allowed seven hits over six innings. He walked two — one intentionally — and hit a batter.

KAILUA 6, MCKINLEY 2

Keenan Tanaka had two hits, including a solo homer in a three-run second for the Surfriders.

KAISER 19, KAIMUKI 3

Zachary Wong and Brent Takaki teamed on a three-hitter with nine strikeouts, and Calvin Tashiro and Pono Meyer each had three RBIs to lead the Cougars.

MOANALUA 12, KALAHEO 0

Kenson Miyaki and Jordan Hirata teamed on a one-hitter, and Kekoa Lee belted a three-run homer for Na Menehune.

KAHUKU 12, FARRINGTON 0

Steven Van Ness fired a two-hitter and struck out eight, and PJ Falamalu hit a grand slam to boost the Red Raiders.

'AIEA 11, RADFORD 0

Jared Iwane and Keenan Naeole teamed on a one-hitter, and Ricky Itagaki had two hits and three RBIs to spark Na Alii.

MILILANI 7, CAMPBELL 5

Adam Schroeder and Jose Cruz each had two hits for the Trojans.

PEARL CITY 9, KAPOLEI 1

Ryno Acosta and Kellen Ushijima each had two hits and a home run for the Chargers.

LEILEHUA 11, WAIPAHU 0

Desmond Ontai had three hits and two RBIs, and struck out eight in four innings to lift the Mules.

WAIALUA 22, NANAKULI 7

Shayne Peiler had three hits, including a three-run homer, and the Bulldogs scored 14 runs in the second inning.

MID-PACIFIC 12, PAC-5 2

Michael Nagamine had two RBIs for the Owls.

'IOLANI 3, DAMIEN 2

Jarrett Arakawa hit an RBI double and Grant Liu added a two-run single during a fifth-inning rally for the Raiders.

KAMEHAMEHA 11, SAINT LOUIS 4

John Worthington had three hits and the Warriors sent 12 batters to the plate during a six-run third inning.
