Wai'alae man charged with first-degree arson

A 20-year-old man was charged today with setting a fire inside his family home Saturday on 20th Avenue.Thomas K. Benevedes is accused of first-degree arson, with bail at $25,000.
Benevedes allegedly set a mattress on fire at about 3 p.m. with his stepmother and stepbrother in the home. The fire was extinguished by his father, police said. No injuries were reported.
