Kaua'i transfer stations accepting small propane tanks

Advertiser Staff

Pressurized propane cylinders for residential use are now being accepted for recycling on Kaua'i, county officials said.

Residents may drop off pressurized propane tanks of up to 40 pounds or 10 gallons at the Hanalei, Hanapepe, Kapa'a and Lihu'e transfer stations. Cylinders larger than that will be accepted only at the Lihu'e transfer station.

Normal hours of operation at all Kaua'i transfer stations are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. except on holidays. The stations will be closed tomorrow in observance of Prince Kuhio Day.

The new recycling program is only for propane tanks for residential use. Businesses will still be required to have the valves on pressurized propane tanks removed by an authorized company before delivering them to the Puhi Metals Recycling Facility.

For more information, call the Kaua'i County Recycling Office at (808) 241-6891.
