Interested in getting a bird as a pet? Individuals are likely to differ as to which attributes of companion birds are desirable and which are undesirable. Before choosing a companion bird, a pro-spective owner may want to give careful consideration to the following questions.

1. Is it possible to tame and touch this bird?

2. How big does its enclosure need to be?

3. How much exercise does it need? Can it take care of its exercise needs within its living area?

4. Does this species bond to one person and resent others, or is it likely to allow and enjoy companionship from several people?

5. What are its dietary requirements and what is involved in daily maintenance?

6. Are its eating habits and droppings messy?

7. What is its expected life span? Three to five years? Five to 10 years? More than 20 years?

8. Does this species have a tendency to pick its feathers?

9. Does this bird have singing ability?

10. What is the potential of this species for screeching, screaming or chewing?

11. Is this species known for its talking ability?

12. Will this bird be a source of disease for my family?

13. How expensive is this bird to buy and maintain?

14. How much time does the bird require?

Unfortunately, many individuals obtain a bird for the wrong reason, instead of for the purpose of adding a unique feathery friend to the family. Birds are remarkable life forms with individual behavioral and personality characteristics. By learning more about the characteristics of individual species, you will be able to make a more informed decision on purchasing a companion bird. Remember, all birds require a certain amount of time and love like any other pet you would own.

ADOPTABLES

Stary
Tag No. 07-4026 — As peanut butter is to jelly, Stary is to the camera; what a photogenic little pussycat! She has pretty seafoam green eyes, lots of nice white whiskers and an adorable, perfectly round face.

Millie
Tag No. 07-2044 — We won't lie; Millie wouldn't win any canine beauty contests, but she's got a heart as big as the outdoors. This tan and white mixed breed has one floppy ear that will not stay upright, which only adds to her doggy charm.
