Two categories — R&B and hip-hop album of the year and music video DVD of the year — have been added to the 2007 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards ballot.

These, and traditional winners ranging from female and male singer to group and album of the year, will be unveiled at the Hoku awards evening June 20 at the Hawai'i Convention Center, a new site for the annual ceremony. Members of the Hawai'i Academy of Recording Arts have received their preliminary ballots, which contain the categories for the first time, an indication of the diversity and evolution of the state's music industry. A minimum of five valid prospects must be available if a new category is established; a Christmas category — introduced in 1999 — was the last one added to the ballot.
