The new e-mail notes that there have been a series of bogus e-mails sent to HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union customers and asks them to update their online accounts as part of a new security system.

A link in the e-mail takes people to a page showing a zero balance in accounts, and another page requesting credit card information. Both pages are hosted by a site in South Korea.

The e-mail is the latest attack by Web-based thieves attempting to get people to give their account and other financial information.

Other bogus e-mails that say they are from HawaiiUSA have offered responders $50 or $80 for completing a marketing survey, messages that online accounts have been suspended and that the credit union will suspend online accounts within 36 hours if people don't update their accounts.

There also have been e-mails about reissuing ATM and debit cards. Hawai'i's credit union members have been the subject of dozens of phishing e-mails since last summer.

The credit union is warning customers not to reply or to click on any part of the electronic messages.
