The Knot, that "can't live without it" Web site (theknot.com) for brides to be, has several articles on eco-friendly and green weddings. One tip that popped up on the search engine: Decorate your ceremony space with items you can reuse at the reception, whether topiaries that go from the altar to the entryway or arrangements that decorate the program table and dress up your guest book area.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

GIVE YOUR WEDDING A GREEN TINGE

Those in the throes of wedding planning can get some simple tips from "Eco-Chic Weddings" (Hatherleigh Press, $12.95) by Emily Elizabeth Anderson. A few suggestions:

  • Send out wedding invitations a bit early, to avoid the "save the date" cards (and save trees).

  • Don't buy anything wedding-specific, since you won't be able to recycle it. Instead of wedding- toast flutes, buy two beautiful glasses and pretty them up with bows or other details.

  • Check with the florist for in-season local flowers, which are not only "greener," but often cheaper.
