Bridge work starts this week

Work will begin this week on a $1.4 million project to demolish and replace the Maunawili Bridge over Kamakalepo Stream, city officials announced.

One lane of the bridge will remain open for traffic throughout the entire seven-month replacement project, officials said.

Construction hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann stated in a press release that "while we've made much of our road repaving efforts, we also have to be mindful that many of our bridges are very old and in need of repair or replacement."
