Punahou's Shawna-Lei Kuehu gets Gatorade honor

Shawna-Lei Kuehu has been named Gatorade's 2006-07 Hawai'i Girls Basketball Player of the Year, it was announced today.It is the second consecutive year Kuehu, a Punahou School junior, has been honored. She joins Brandy Richardson (1998-01) of Kalaheo and Kamehameha Schools' Nani Cockett (1990-93) as multiple winners from Hawai'i.
Kuehu, a 5-foot-10 post, averaged 19.8 points in 2006 when she was named the Advertiser Girls Basketball State Player of the Year, but she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee and is likely out for the remainder of this season.
