Man critical after Kapolei car crash; lane reopens

Advertiser Staff

A 25-year-old man was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition early this morning after he lost control of his car on Farrington Highway and hit a telephone pole.

Police said the accident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when the 'Ewa man, believed to be speeding, hit the ditch while driving west near the Kapolei Golf Course. As his car was spinning out, he was thrown from vehicle and suffered several injuries.

The abandoned car then took out a power pole, causing a minor interruption in service. Service was quickly restored.

HECO workers were called to the scene around 5 a.m. after traffic investigators completed their investigation.

It is not known at this time if alcohol was a factor.

One Kapolei-bound lane on Farrington Highway was shut down at 1:45 a.m., but has since been reopened.
