WRITE ON: Jerry Hopkins, who has scribbled biographies of Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison of The Doors and Jimi Hendrix (and this town's Tom Moffatt), is huddling with Don Ho to get Mr. Tiny Bubbles' authorized bio in print. Watermark Publishing's Nicole Chew is assembling historic photos of Uncle Don. DISC-CUSSIONS: Get ready for one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. "Na Hula Punahele," a CD by Tony Conjugacion, is due shortly from the Mountain Apple Co. The album of 21 hula favorites, performed as originally conceived, will likely will be a tutorial for current and future hula prospects.

"It is my sincere desire that this project may serve that purpose." The disc also includes four originals and some never-before-heard compositions by such kupuna as Alice Johnson, Sam Bernard and Alfred Alohikea. ...

Fiji's back in the game; for four weeks now (and likely going on its fifth), his "Xpectation" CD has been occupying the top spot on one survey. Also still up there in sales (at No. 2): Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Facing Future." There's certainly been a pot of gold at the end of Bruddah Iz's rainbow. ...

SIGHT 'EMS: James Berger, the local Saab dealer, was driving into the Hawai'i Convention Center's parking lot last week for the First Hawaiian International Auto Show, and was taken aback when he spotted a larger-than-life photo of his wife, Helen, a model for a Hawai'i State Federal Credit Union wall ad. The former Mrs. Hawai'i and Mrs. Thailand now stars in a Thai MTV-type reality show that's shot in Bangkok. So James has been single dad for daughter Hayley. ...

Also in People are celebs of another sort — Steve and Carolyn West of Oregon. Last year the couple won the biggest Powerball jackpot ever, $340 million. They spent a year buying a home, two cars and enjoying a couple of trips, including a family trek to the Turtle Bay resort last Christmas. Drool over the $4 million they spent treating themselves to the good life. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: "Ohana Road," an automotive magazine co-hosted by Dale Payson and Anita Hall and airing at 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 p.m. Sundays on KITV-4, is celebrating its fourth anniversary this month. Since March 2003, the show has earned several industry awards, including last month's top award from the International Automotive Media Competition for Best of Video, topping the perennial winner, PBS' "Motor Trend TV." Show segments feature local comedians such as Augie T and Pipi from FM100. ...

ROMANCE, CONTINUED: Having just concluded the first "Return to Romance" music festival, organizer-maestro Matt Catingub and his wife, Vicki, continued their love affair with Hawai'i by celebrating their milestone 10th anniversary March 25 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island. It's where they got married in 1997 — and they still return there, since they consider it their favorite romantic spot on Earth.
