At traffic stop, man says he's a hostage; suspect jailed

Advertiser Staff

A 34-year-old Waikiki man was arrested today in Chinatown on suspicion of holding a man captive and robbing him of his credit card.

The suspect was arrested after a traffic stop at North Pauahi and Maunakea streets at 2:33 a.m. During the stop, a 36-year-old man told the officer that he had been kidnapped and robbed.

The victim told police that the driver, an acquaintance, had a gun and knife and threatened to kill him, and also attempted to sell his car for food.

A second suspect, who had been following in another car, fled after the traffic stop and was still at large.
