Seven names submitted for open OHA seat

Members of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees today submitted the names of seven candidates for consideration as a replacement for Hawai'i Island Trustee Linda Dela Cruz, who died March 15.

The action came at a meeting today, OHA said in a press release.

The individual selected as a replacement will serve out the remainder of Dela Cruz's four-year term, which will expire in November 2008.

The proposed candidates are William Chillingworth, Palikapu Dedman, Louis Hao, Robert Lindsey, Ann Nathaniel, Mililani Trask and Charles Rose.

Under state law, the board has 60 days from the time the seat became vacant to name a replacement trustee by a two-thirds majority vote. If the board is unable to fill the seat within the specified time period, the governor will then have 30 days to name a replacement trustee.
