NCL offers Nintendo Wii on Hawai'i cruises

Advertiser Staff

Move over pingpong and shuffleboard, kids on NCL cruise ships can now bowl, box and play tennis with the hot Nintendo Wii game system.

Company officials said the three NCL America ships that regularly take travelers among the islands already have the trendy gear, which allows players to use motion-sensitive controllers to virtually play on video screens.

Officials from NCL said it is the first cruise line to offer the popular game system — which launched in November.By setting up the game in public areas on the ship, with large video screens, ship officials said the game proves a social draw.

Just in case the parents, grandparents and passersby monopolize the Wii setups, the cruise line promises two Wii setups in each kid's crew area.

Nintendo of America's senior vice president George Harrison said the partnerships gives the company access to folks who aren't traditionally playing video games. "Our partnership reinforces how Wii's social phenomenon continues to grow, from the centerpiece of gaming parties, to a workout supplement, to a fun facet of vacation cruises," he said.

Colin Veitch, NCL president and CEO, said the link offers another chance for the company to create fun and non-traditional cruise.

"With the addition of Wii to our on-board activities, we can now offer bowling, boxing, golf, tennis and baseball across the entire fleet," Veitch said. "Cheering, yelling and high-fives will be highly encouraged."
