Island students create art for Dalai Lama's April visit

Advertiser Staff

More than 20 public and private schools from around islands have created "Visions for Peace," an art project themed to the upcoming visit of the Dalai Lama to Maui.

Students created prayer flags, wrote poetry and composed essays to celebrate kindness, compassion and peace in the Hawaiian culture. Six hundred of them will attend his April 24 public appearance at the Maui War Memorial Stadium.

Poetry will be published in a book to be presented to him, with one student selected to share a poem during the opening ceremonies.
