Catamaran victim stable

Advertiser Staff

A 46-year-old Kaua'i woman injured Sunday during a whale-watching cruise off Maui was listed in stable condition yesterday at Maui Me-morial Medical Center, according to county spokeswoman Mahina Martin.

The woman suffered a closed head trauma, eye injury, and spinal vertabrae, rib and left collarbone fractures when she was struck by a falling mast and rigging aboard the catamaran Kiele V off the coast of Kahana, Martin said.

The accident killed Hal Pulfer, 48, of Highland Park, Ill. He was on the cruise with his wife and three children, ages 7, 10 and 12. The Coast Guard continues its investigation into the incident.
