'Iolani softball coach steps down

By Wes Nakama
Advertiser Staff Writer

Chris Shimabukuro, who guided 'Iolani to softball state championships in 1999 and 2000 and three Interscholastic League of Honolulu titles, has stepped down as head coach after nine seasons at the helm.

"I had been thinking about it for awhile and I just thought it was time," said Shimabukuro, who will remain as the school's director of development. "I have to catch up with work, and I have so many other things I need to do."

The Raiders took third place in the state tournament this season and second in the ILH.

Shimabukuro was named The Advertiser's State Coach of the Year in 2000.

'Iolani co-athletic director Eddie Maruyama is accepting applications until April 30; contact him by phone at 943-2208 or by e-mail at maruyama@iolani.org
