Box office battle: Will and Napoleon vs. the Dinosaur

Advertiser Staff

Now we'll see who the kings of comedy really are: A Walt Disney dinosaur who has a really "big head and short arms" so he can't eat a little boy curled up in a corner to appease the dastardly villain, or the seemingly can't-miss combo of Will Ferrell and Jon Heder — better known for his role as Napoleon Dynamite.

The trio headline the two comedies topping tonight's movie openings. The short-armed dinosaur has been a selling point for "Meet the Robinsons," an animated tale about a young genius who is transported to the future. (Think "Shrek," "The Incredibles," and other dynamic animated flicks).

Typically, "Meet the Robinsons" would be a slam dunk favorite to take home weekend box office honors. But Ferrell and Heder are two of the top box office draws for comedies filled with one-liners and in their first film together, they team up as banned figure skating competitors coming together to compete in team competition.

And in the possibly overlooked category, also opening are "The Lookout" where a brain-damaged former hockey star is trapped into taking part in a crime; and "The Peaceful Warrior," where a gymnastics star whose leg is shattered is inspired by a gas-station philosopher.

Pick'em. Or, do like a lot of people will do and see both headliners this weekend. Either way, you'll know what they're talking about at the water cooler on Monday.
