Downtown traffic projects start Monday

Advertiser Staff

Enjoy the final day of spring break traffic today, where drivers can actually change lanes and maneuver somewhat freely into town during their commutes.

Starting Monday, not only does school resume, but the State Department of Transportation will be starting two construction projects just outside of downtown.

The long-term goal of the $1.3 million projects is to improve traffic flow.

Short-term, as in next week, traffic will be a bear in some areas.

The first project is at the Pali Highway and Vineyard Boulevard intersection. DOT is extending the left-turn lane along the Pali in the south-bound direction an additional 300 feet. While construction is in process there may be lane closures.

The second project is at Nimitz and Pacific Street, where a left turn phasing to the traffic signals will be added. Lane closures are expected along Nimitz in either direction.
