Hear from experts at Cancer Research Information Day

Some of the state's top experts on cancer will speak tomorrow at the Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i's second annual Cancer Research Information Day.

The public-awareness event, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be held at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kaka'ako. It is free and features presentations from doctors and cancer researchers who will also take questions. There also will be informational booths.

Topics include "The Dawn of a New Era for Cancer Care in Hawai'i," "Does a Tomato-Rich Diet Have a Role in Prostate Cancer Prevention?" and "Can a Vaccine Really Control the Incidence of Cervical Cancer?"

Other presentations will examine vitamin and mineral supplements, clinical trials participation, searching for credible cancer information and talks about colorectal and prostate cancer.

Dr. Carl-Wilhelm Vogel, cancer center director, is also slated to present an update on the center and plans for a new research and treatment facility.
