Five new fire battalion chiefs to be recognized

Five newly promoted battalion chiefs will be recognized during a Honolulu Fire Department promotion ceremony set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at HFD's headquarters auditorium.

  • Battalion Chief Albert K. T. Mahoe has been assigned to the Second Battalion, Second Platoon to oversee HFD companies in east Honolulu. Mahoe has 17 years with the department, the last six as a captain in the Fifth and Second Battalions and at HFD headquarters in Fire Operations. Mahoe served on the Department's Apparatus Committee and was president of the HFD Athletic Association.

  • Battalion Chief Scott K. Mosher has been assigned to the Fifth Battalion, Third Platoon to oversee HFD companies in central O'ahu. Mosher has 24 years with the department, the last eight as a captain at the HFD Training and Research Bureau and at Fire Headquarters in Fire Operations and Support Services. Mosher helped to develop the Chief Officer Training Program and organize the HFD's Master Strategic Plan.

  • Battalion Chief Sigmund K. Oka has been assigned to the Fourth Battalion, Third Platoon to oversee HFD companies on the Leeward Coast. Oka has 24 years with the department, the last 11 as a captain in the Third Battalion and in the Administrative Services Bureau. Oka worked on several major projects, including renovation of the Kapolei Fire Station and construction of the new McCully Fire Station. Oka is also an executive board member of the HFD Firemen's Fund.

  • Battalion Chief Dave M. Takehara has been assigned to the Fourth Battalion, First Platoon to oversee HFD companies on the Leeward Coast. Takehara has 21 years with the department, the last eight as a captain at the HFD Training and Research Bureau and in the Administrative Services Bureau. Takehara was instrumental in establishing the HFD's Emergency Medical Technician — basic training program and was chosen as the State of Hawai'i Emergency Medical Services Instructor of the Year in 2000.

  • Battalion Chief Kenison L. Tejada has been assigned to the Fire Communications Center, where he will oversee HFD personnel who manage receipt of 911 calls and dispatch HFD companies to emergencies. Tejada has 25 years with the department, the last 12 as a captain in the Fifth Battalion, HFD Headquarters, and as the public information officer. Tejada served on the executive board of the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association for 10 years and was a member of the department's apparatus committee. He was also instrumental in establishing the HFD's Wellness Fitness Program and served as its first coordinator.
