San Jose State rolls by UH in baseball, 9-1

Scott Sobczak pitched a complete game five-hitter to help San Jose State beat Hawai'i, 9-1, last night to take the Western Athletic Conference series opener at Les Murakami Stadium.Sobczak (3-1), a sophomore JC transfer making his first Division I start, walked none with six strikeouts for the Spartans (17-11 overall, 2-2 WAC).
Ian Harrington (4-5) went two-plus innings, allowing five runs, four hits and three walks for UH (21-10, 2-2).
Hawai'i avoided getting shut out in the ninth when Kevin Macdonald led off with a double and scored on Derek DuPree's single to center.
The Spartans sent eight batters to the plate in the first, scoring three off Harrington, on a bases-clearing double by Brian Chase. After walking his third batter of the inning, Harrington got Kyle Bellows to foul out to first to end the inning.
The Spartans chased Harrington in the third. Ryan Angel led off with a single and Donato Giovanatto was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Angel scored on Marcus McKimmy's single to center that sent Giovanatto to third. Harrington was lifted for Jayson Kramer. Chase grounded to second for a double play that allowed Giovanatto to score to make it 5-0. Sonny Garza grounded out to second to end the inning.
San Jose State added a run in the fourth. Bellows was hit by a pitch to start the inning, took second on Justin Santich-Hughes' sacrifice and scored on Chris Balatico's double to left. Balatico was thrown out at third trying to stretch his hit into a triple.
Three errors helped the Spartans score a run in the sixth. Sonny Garza reached on a fielding error by third baseman Justin Frash. Garza took second on an errant pick-off throw by pitcher Nick Rhodes. Bellows grounded out to short to freeze Garza, who then took third when Santich-Hughes grounded out to second. But Balatico reached on shortstop Eli Christensen's fielding error that allowed Garza to score to make it 7-0.
The Spartans got another unearned run in the eighth. Garza singled with one out and one out later scored when Santich-Hughes reached on shortstop Christensen's fielding error to make it 8-0.
San Jose State added a run in the ninth on an RBI single by McKimmy to make it 9-0.
