Kim shoots 78 at Kraft

U.S. Women's Amateur champion Kimberly Kim, from Hilo, shot 6-over-par 78 in yesterday's opening round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship. The LPGA's first major of the year is played at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Kim is tied for 73rd, 10 shots behind leader Shi Hyun Ahn. The top 70 and ties after today's second round advance.

Kim started on the back and had four bogeys. She dropped to 5-over with bogey at No. 1. Her only birdie came on the next hole, but she closed with bogeys on her final two. She hit nine greens in regulation.

The 15-year-old was born in Hilo and moved to the Mainland her freshman year to pursue her golf career more seriously.
