A fire broke out on the seventh floor of a highrise at 1556 Pi'ikoi Street at about 7:42 p.m. tonight in Makiki.

Forty firefighters responded. The fire was out at 8:08 p.m.

No one was injured, but many residents left the building and stood in the street until the fire was extinguished.

Traffic was routed off of Pi'ikoi between Wilder Street and Lunalilo.

Firefighters said it appeared that the unit where the fire started was vacant. Two floors had smoke and water damage.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.
