Kahului Airport work reroutes flight patterns

Weekend maintenance of the main runway at Kahului Airport will cause increased aircraft traffic over residential areas in Central Maui as planes are rerouted to a different runway, according to the state Department of Transportation.Runway 2/20 was closed from 12:30 to 5:30 a.m. yesterday, with overnight air cargo flights rerouted to Runway 5/23. Work was continue during the same hours today.
The DOT said the change would mean more planes and aircraft noise over Wailuku, Kahului and Spreckelsville.
