Obama's 'Audacity' coming out in Spanish

Associated Press

NEW YORK — Sen. Barack Obama's "The Audacity of Hope," already a million-seller in English, will be coming out in a Spanish-language edition.

Vintage Espanol, a paperback imprint of Random House Inc., will publish "La Audacia de la Esperanza" in June with a first printing of 50,000, a high number for a Spanish release.

"It will be our biggest book of the year in Spanish," Vintage spokesman Russell Perreault said.

"The Audacity of Hope," published last fall, has received surprisingly strong reviews for a political policy book and has been credited with helping the presidential hopes of Obama, a Democrat from Illinois.

As Vintage noted in a press release Thursday, the book also includes passages of interest to Spanish-language readers.

"As a young organizer, I often worked with Latino leaders on issues that affected both black and brown residents, from failing schools to illegal dumping to unimmunized children," Obama writes.

Obama's previous book, "Dreams From My Father," is not yet in Spanish, but such an edition is possible, Perreault said.
