Kailua treatment plant work may increase noise, odors

Advertiser Staff

Required maintenance at the Kailua Wastewater Treatment Plant tomorrow could cause an increase in noise and odors in the vicinity, according to a city news release issued today.

During this phase of the project, workers will remove one of two bar screens at the facility at 95 Kane'ohe Bay Drive. An enclosure around the bar screen will have to be removed to allow workers to remove the 45-foot-long bar screen. The work will occur during business hours, between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., when wastewater flow volume is low.

"We regret the inconvenience, but the work is absolutely necessary," said Eric Takamura, the city's Environmental Services director.
