Northwest swell bringing higher surf in afternoon

Advertiser Staff

A moderate northwest swell is expected to increase surf along northern shores from 2 feet to 4 feet early in the day to 6 feet later this afternoon. Surf will be 1 foot to 3 feet along west and south shores, and 2 feet to 4 feet along east shores.

The best surf is expected tomorrow when a large south swell produces surf above the high-surf advisory level of 8 feet on south-facing shores and continues through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

Surf heights are forecast heights of the face or front of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height in the zone of maximum refraction. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height.
