Advertiser Staff

Results from this year's Neighborhood Board elections will be available online today, the Neighborhood Commission Office said.

Visit www.honolulu.gov/nco to see the election results.

According to the NCO news release, a total of 44,047 ballots were cast in the elections for O'ahu's 32 neighborhood boards. Of those, 4,030 were cast via the Internet. It was the first time voters had the option of voting online.

Other numbers of note:

  • A total of 231,351 paper ballots were mailed to voters only in areas that had contested races. As in past elections, voters in districts with uncontested races or without candidates did not receive paper ballots. All voters, even those in uncontested districts, were eligible to use the online voting option. Overall turnout was 19.1 percent.

  • Sixty-two of the 444 seats that were up for grabs in the biennial election were not filled.

The respective neighborhood boards will fill those vacant seats by appointing community members.

  • O'ahu's 32 neighborhood boards serve as grass-roots advisers to all levels of government on community concerns. Each board meets monthly and board members are not paid for their service. There are 138 subdistricts within the 32 board areas.
