New mom? We want to hear about your special delivery

Advertiser Staff

This Mother's Day, Island Life will pay honor to Hawai'i's mothers by putting a spotlight on the trends in birthing, one of the most momentous experiences in a mother's life.

Birthing practices have changed immensely over the generations, and even within the past decade or so.

It's not unusual today for moms-to-be to work with a doula, to labor underwater, or to personalize the environment in their birthing room with music and memorabilia.

We'd like to ask new mothers: What did you do to make your childbirth experience special?

How did you personalize the experience of labor? Was there music you just had to have during the experience? Was there a special massage a midwife used?

And what about recording the event? Tell us about any multimedia elements you used to capture the moment.

Please share your wisdom with us and other mothers, and we'll include it in a story on Mother's Day.

Write to us with your tale by Friday: islandlife@honoluluadvertiser.com, with Birthing Stories in the subject line. Be sure to include your name and daytime phone number. Or call staff writer Mary Kaye Ritz with your story: 525-8035.
