HAWAI'I KAI
Board weighing new park hours

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Kai Neighborhood Board will take up the issue of closing Koko Head District Park at night because of chronic problems with graffiti.

The board meeting will start at 7 p.m. today at Haha'ione Elementary School's cafeteria.

The issue of closing the Koko Head District Park's 59 acres has come up before. The most recent debate was in 2001, and the neighborhood board voted to keep the park open, despite reports of vandalism and loitering.

This time, the closure is backed by youth sports groups, including the Hawai'i Kai Youth Baseball League. For more information, go to www.honolulu.gov/nco/index1.htm.
