Bishop Museum Press wins award

The Bishop Museum Press has received the 2007 Literature Award from the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries for its recent publication, "A Tropical Garden Flora: Plants Cultivated in the Hawaiian Islands and other Tropical Places."The award also goes to the authors of the book, George W. Staples and Derral R. Herbst. "A Tropical Garden Flora" was published in 2005. The 932-page book retails for $59.95, and includes descriptions of more than 2,100 species of tropical and subtropical plants. Line drawings of more than 400 species are also shown.
The book was selected in the "technical category."
"Our judges deemed this a wonderful, useful reference," said Janet Evans, chairwoman of the awards committee. "The Bishop Museum Press is to be commended for publishing a work that makes such significant contribution to our literature."
The award will presented in June at the council's annual conference in Cincinnati.
