Lane closures near Ala Moana Center start today

Advertiser Staff

Starting today through June 30 sections of Kona Street will be temporarily closed to accommodate Ala Moana Center's retail expansion project.

Kona Street, between Mahukona Street and Ke'eaumoku Street, will be closed 24/7 so construction crews can install the exterior building finishes connecting to Nordstrom.

A look at the lane closures:

  • 'ewa-bound lanes closed through May 13.

  • 'ewa- and Diamond Head-bound lanes closed May 14 through June 15.

  • 'ewa-bound lanes closed June 16 to June 30.

In addition, both of the Kona Street up and down ramps with access to and from Ala Moana's parking garage between Street Level and Mall Level will be closed during the construction period.

Vehicular access to and from the Ala Moana Pacific Center via Kona Street will remain open to local traffic only. Pedestrian traffic will be prohibited along Kona Street between Mahukona Street and Ke'eaumoku Street as a safety precaution. Also, TheBus will be temporarily rerouted along Ke'eaumoku Street, Kapi'olani Boulevard and Mahukona Street as both the 'ewa- and Diamond Head-bound lanes remain closed from May 14 through June 15.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes into Ala Moana Center via Ala Moana Boulevard, Pi'ikoi Street and Atkinson Drive during this time period.

To help facilitate the traffic flow during the closure, the interior mall Street Level ring road on the mauka side of Ala Moana Center (between Sera's Surf & Shore and Up & Riding stores) will remain open to vehicular traffic.
