Prosecutors today charged a Wai'anae Valley woman with the abduction and beating of another woman last November.

Vanessa L. Joseph, 36, is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail for kidnapping, second-degree assault and second-degree robbery.

She made her initial appearance today at District Court. Her preliminary hearing is Friday.

Another woman, 30, arrested with Joseph on Monday was released pending further investigation.

A 34-year-old woman alleged she was forced into a vehicle last Nov. 25 at 11 p.m. by Joseph and three other women. The victim told police Joseph pointed a knife at her, threatened to kill and bury her and hurt her family.

The woman suffered cigarette burns on her neck and facial fractures. She also told police Joseph urinated on her while the other women held her down.

Police have made no other arrests in the case.

According to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, Joseph has 10 prior convictions.
