Woman suing Vegas casino for bedbug bites

A Honolulu woman is suing Boyd Gaming Corp. for medical complications suffered from bedbug bites suffered last year during a stay at the California Hotel-Casino in Downtown Las Vegas.

The civil suit filed last Wednesday in federal court by attorneys Eric Seitz, Lawrence I. Kawasaki and Ronald N.W. Kim on behalf of 43-year-old Jeanine Freitas is seeking relief for medical expenses and mental anguish through a jury trial.

Freitas reported "itchy red marks all over her body, legs and arms" to hotel officials on Sept. 1 and was sent to Freemont Medical Center, where she was diagnosed and treated for bedbug bites, according to the suit.

Upon returning to Hawai'i, Freitas suffered complications from the steroid treatment she received for the bites in Las Vegas, and endured complications that included abnormal and prolonged vaginal bleeding, Seitz said today.
