WAHIAWA
Closing hospital unit on agenda

Advertiser Staff

The Wahiawa Neighborhood Board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. today to discuss Wahiawa General Hospital's planned closure of its obstetrics center.

The meeting at the Wahiawa Recreation Center, 1139 Kilani Ave., is scheduled to include representatives of the hospital, nursing staff, as well as elected officials in the area.

Wahiawa General has said it would indefinitely suspend maternity services by the end of May as it looks for ways to stem $3 million in losses projected this year.

A group of nurses has been lobbying to keep the birthing facility open, saying it offers more personal care than larger facilities.
