South swell keeps lifeguards busy

By Catherine E. Toth
Advertiser Urban Honolulu Writer

As of 3 p.m. today, there had been two rescues and 20 assists by lifeguards on rescue watercrafts in Waikiki, according to Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city's Emergency Medical Services.

In response to today's moderate swell, lifeguards also enforced 149 preventive actions.

None of the rescues required assistance from paramedics, Cheplic said.

The National Weather Service forecast waves in the 4- to 6-foot range today along south-facing shores.

The south swell is on the decline, expected to reach heights of 4 feet by tomorrow.
