UH's Turnbull named MPSF water polo's top newcomer

Freshman driver Angela Turnbull of the University of Hawai'i was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo Newcomer of the Year.

Turnbull, of Canberra, Australia, tied with teammate Lisa van Raalte as the team's top scorers (13) at the MPSF Championship Tournament last week. Turnbull was third on the team with 47 goals this season.

The Rainbow Wahine (17-10) finished fourth in the MPSF tournament and did not receive an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. San Diego State, which lost to UH, 19-12 in the MPSF quarterfinals, received an at-large selection and the championship's fourth seed.

UCLA driver Kelly Rulon was named MPSF Player of the Year and Stanford's John Tanner was Coach of the Year.
