O'ahu film shoot gets traditional Hawaiian blessing

Advertiser Staff

Kahu Nettie Tiffany, left, gives a traditional Hawaiian blessing to the filmmakers of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," which began filming last week at Turtle Bay Resort. The movie is the first to take advantage of Act 88, Hawai'i's new film tax credit that took effect last July. Next to Tiffany, from left: co-producer Rodney Rothman, executive producer Richard Vane, producer Shauna Robertson, director Nick Stoller, producer Judd Apatow and cast member Da'Vone McDonald.

A new film being shot by the producers of "40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" recently received the traditional Hawaiian blessing from Kahu Nettie Tiffany.

The romantic comedy "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" began shooting last week at Turtle Bay Resort. It stars Jason Segel, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis and Russell Brand and is directed by Nick Stoller. Producers are Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson, while Richard Vane is the executive director and the writers are Segel and Apatow.

The film looks at one guy's arduous quest to grow up and get over the heartbreak of being dumped — if he can only make himself start Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

For once, O'ahu will be filmed as O'ahu and not another distant, exotic location. The lead character comes to the island to forget Marshall, only to run into her and her new boyfriend at the resort.

No release date has been announced for the Universal Pictures film, but stay tuned.
