So you want to dance?

"Destination: Groove Dance Hawaii," a reality TV show airing for 12 weeks starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 on KHNL 8, is seeking 200 participants to explore a range of dance styles, including jazz, ballroom and hip-hop.

Auditions will be at 8 p.m. May 19 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Tropics Showroom. Preregistration is necessary to try out, and deadline for applications is May 11. Contestants must be at least 14 years old, be U.S. citizens or possess a legal visa. Those selected will be assigned an audition time.

Application forms can be downloaded at www.destinationgroove.com; they should be mailed to "Destination: Groove Dance Hawaii," Attn.: Auditions, 1050 Bishop St., No. 405, Honolulu, HI 96813.

The series, hosted by Jordan Segundo and Yasmin Dar, is the creation of Christine Yasunaga, a dance teacher at 'Iolani School who was an original dance ensemble member of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, "The Lion King."

Judges will decide weekly who stays and who gets bumped. The Sunday night show will be shown again at 5 p.m. on Saturdays.

A related event, "Swing & Groove," will be held at 6 p.m. May 18 at the Tapa Ballroom of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, when Segundo and Dar host a dinner-dance event featuring Matt Catingub, Dan Del Negro, DeShannon Higa, Steve Jones and Darryl Pellegrini. Tickets are $100 for dinner and dancing, $35 for dancing only.
