Big Island police renew request for help with fatal crash

Advertiser Staff

Traffic investigators are renewing their request for the public's help in locating the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run motor vehicle/pedestrian crash March 14 in Mountain View on the Big Island.

The victim of the hit-and-run, identified as Raymond L. Carvalho IV of Mountain View, was walking north on North Kulani Road when he was struck by a vehicle also traveling north at 10:44 p.m.

Police believe the vehicle may be a blue 1999 to 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck or a blue 2000 to 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban.

Police would like to question a male and female who were seen near a vehicle matching that general description at the Mountain View post office shortly after the crash.

Police ask anyone with information about the identity of the man or woman at the post office to call Officer Norbert Serrao at (808) 961-8118 or the police nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call CrimeStoppers in Hilo at (808) 961-8300 or in Kona at (808) 329-8181.
