TODAY'S MUST-SEE

"Special Investigations Unit: James Brown — Say It Proud," 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., CNN (unless pre-empted by news); repeats at 2 and 5 p.m. tomorrow. Abandoned by his mother and then his father, James Brown spent three years at a juvenile detention center. There, he remade himself. He was a perfectionist who fined band members for unshined shoes. On stage, however, he was the master of passionate funk music. This excellent documentary briefly visits Brown's decline and his arrests. Mostly, however, reporter Don Lemon has an upbeat portrait of a self-made star; guests range from old colleagues (Bobby Byrd, Bootsy Collins) to Usher.

"Best of Saturday Night Live, 2006-2007," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Tomorrow, NBC will have a fun special that recalls the hectic "SNL" of the 1990s. First, we should probably be reminded that the show still has its good moments. Here are 90 minutes of highlights.

OF LOCAL NOTE

Don Ho Memorial Service and Celebration of Life, 4:30-10 p.m., KGMB. Live extended coverage of the legendary local vocalist's memorial service, the scattering of his ashes off Waikiki's Queen's Surf Beach and a music concert and tribute honoring his life.

OF NOTE

Kentucky Derby, 10:30 a.m., NBC. People get really excited; then horses run fast for two minutes.

"Spider-Man 2" (2004), 3 p.m., and "X-Men" (2000), 6 p.m.; both FX. Here's a big-budget double feature with lots of Marvel Comics characters coming to life.

"A Stranger's Heart," 6 p.m., Hallmark Channel; repeats Sunday. Samantha Mathis plays a tender young woman awaiting a heart transplant; she reluctantly meets some more-raucous patients. Mathis is terrific, but the second half of the story, involving her obsession with a young girl, is a stretch.

"Criminal Minds," 7 p.m., CBS. In a rerun, four teens, three of them black, are killed in a mostly white community. Officials assume it's a hate crime.

"CSI: Miami," 8 p.m., CBS. Two brothers have been shot in this rerun in a case linked to a money-laundering scheme.

"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," 8 p.m., NBC. Tim Daly and Kathy Baker play a preacher and his wife in this rerun. A murder soon brings layers of suspicion.

"Meet the Fokkers" (2004), 8 p.m., ABC. This sequel doesn't have nearly the wit of "Meet the Parents," but it does have impressive casting. Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand play Ben Stiller's eccentric parents. They jolt his fiancee (Teri Polo) and her parents (Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner).

"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," 8:30 p.m., USA Network. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey meet and date while having secret (and opposite) agendas. The plot is absurdly contrived, but the stars are likable.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. In a rerun, a church-burning becomes a homicide, when police realize a man had been killed before the blaze began.
