Pearl City wins OIA judo titles

Pearl City's boys defeated Castle, 95-0, last night at 'Aiea to repeat as O'ahu Interscholastic Association judo champions.
The Charger girls also won, beating McKinley, 55-37, in the title match.
"It's been a while since we swept," said Pearl City head coach Robyn Puahala. "The kids worked really hard all year long and they really came through."
Pearl City beat Moanalua, 47-45, in the semifinals while the Charger girls topped Kahuku, 53-40.
WATER POLO
TURNBULL SELECTED
University of Hawai'i freshman driver Angela Turnbull was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo Newcomer of the Year.
Turnbull, of Canberra, Australia, tied with Lisa van Raalte as the team's top scorer (13) at the MPSF Championship Tournament last week. Turnbull was third on the team with 47 goals this season.
UCLA driver Kelly Rulon was named MPSF Player of the Year and Stanford's John Tanner was Coach of the Year.

TUIOTI-MARINER LISTED
University of Hawai'i's Lafu Tuioti-Mariner is one of 46 players named to the spring watch list for an award presented to the most outstanding center in college football.
Tuioti-Mariner, a 6-foot, 279-pound junior, is on the list for the Dave Rimington Trophy, named after the 1981-82 All-American at Nebraska who went on to play in the NFL.
GOLF
KANEKO MAKES CUT
Honolulu's Ayaka Kaneko shot a 6-over-par 78 yesterday and made the cut in the Salonpas World Ladies Cup. The Japan LPGA event is being played at Tokyo Yomiuri Country Club.
Kaneko, a 17-year-old Sacred Hearts junior, was at 4-over 148 and tied for 34th, seven strokes behind five golfers tied for the lead.
AWARDS
SENAS, HIGA HONORED
Softball player Charity Senas and baseball player Michael Higa were selected Hawai'i-Hilo Athletes of the Year.
Senas, a junior shortstop, set season records in home runs (12), RBIs (55) and slugging percentage (.714).
Higa, a junior second baseman, leads Hilo with a .320 batting average and 37 RBIs.
Tennis senior Daniel Pollock, a health and physical education major (4.0), and cross country junior Kari Andrew, a biology major (3.77), are Academic Athletes of the Year.
