Advertiser Staff

Kenory Khuy of University Laboratory School has won top honors in this year's Congressional Art Competition — Kaha Ki'i (An Artistic Discovery) for high school students in the First Congressional District.

Khuy took the Best in Show award for "Speechless." Her prize package includes a trip to Washington, D.C., this summer to see her artwork on display in the National Art Gallery, custom framing plus a $100 gift card from PicturesPlus and a 30GB Apple iPod.

In addition to Best in Show, the top 10 students in 2-Dimensional as well as Computer Generated/Photography categories were honored. They received prizes ranging from iPods to iTunes cards to certificates for artwork framing from PicturesPlus, inter-island flight coupons from Hawaiian Air, Software from Microsoft, and other gifts. The complete list of winners is attached.

The 167 students who entered, the largest pool of youth artists in the competition's history, each received a gift bag. All prizes were donated.

The contest was organized by the volunteer Congressional Arts Competition of Hawai'i, with Congressman Neil Abercrombie as the event's honorary chair.
